An air source heat pump uses a continuous cycle of pumping air from a lower temperature indoor air source into a higher temperature outdoor air source. The air is moved by a compressor or blower in a closed loop. This system draws air in through a fine air duct. The lower air temperature allows a cooled water to be pulled through the ductwork from the air source heat pump refrigerant tank, to be reconditioned back into the water supply piping for use in outdoor heating.

An air source heat pump can be installed in domestic hot water systems. It can also be used in a space heating system. The space heating system is designed to use the air flow temperature as a source of pre-heated water circulating through a sealed system. There are advantages to using this type of space heating system as opposed to other types such as space air conditioning and heat pumps.

Space air conditioner operates using Freon trapped inside a refrigerant tank. When the refrigerant reaches its freezing point, the condenser coils open, allowing the trapped gas to become liquid and begin to condense. The condensed gas is then directed into an outside air handling system such as an outside air conditioning unit or outdoor hot water system. With the space-conditioning system, the air source heat pump acts just like an air conditioner. The only difference is the pre-heated air is directed to an outdoor cooling system where it becomes cold immediately upon entering the space.

With a low carbon footprint design, a space heating system may be cost effective when compared to traditional space conditioning and heat pumps. The installation cost for an air source heat pump system can be less than for a space air conditioner. An important advantage of an air source heat pump over a space air conditioner is that there is no need to vent Freon away from its location in order to maintain the temperature. All of the Freon that would have to be vented outside can be directed into the collector coil.

The major disadvantage of an air source heat pump compared to the space air conditioner is that the space is required to have a sufficient level of available space in order to install the device. Another problem that can occur is that excess heat will build up in the collector coil because of too much water vapor in the outside air. This is a minor disadvantage compared to many of the possible drawbacks of an indoor or space air conditioner. One additional consideration that should be considered is that an indoor air source heat pump requires a much smaller sized area than most space conditioners do.

A third disadvantage associated with space heaters is that they are generally not as energy-efficient as air source heat pumps. This is due to the fact that the space must need to be filled with an appropriate temperature. In more temperate climates, the space must also be conditioned and heated to the proper levels. Since the entire unit uses Freon, it requires a low energy output and therefore does not provide an energy-efficient solution. This problem can be overcome somewhat by using Freon in a refrigerant that is conditioned inside the device instead of the Freon itself. This works especially well in cooler climates and is more energy-efficient than the original Freon.

The fourth disadvantage associated with space heating and water heating devices is that they may be susceptible to mechanical failures. As mentioned earlier, an air source heat pump has no mechanical parts that can break down. However, as with any type of fluid, it is vital to make sure that all leaks are properly sealed. Another problem that can occur is that certain types of air-source heat pumps can experience an increase in flow temperature as a result of an increase in humidity. This is why it is necessary to regularly check the humidity level in the room in which the unit is located and make sure that it does not exceed the set level.

Finally, it should be noted that the air source heat pump usually produces very hot air and may produce hot water as well. This tends to lead to leaks in some of the components. If you discover these leaks, it is important to repair them immediately before they become a safety hazard. If your installer does not tell you that these components are required to be sealed or cleaned before use, make sure that you find out this information before purchasing the unit. By following these steps, you will purchase a quality unit that will provide you with excellent home heating and cooling.read more
